Photostory Friday: The Boy WANTS a haircut

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

A few weeks ago, Joubert suddenly decided that it would be cool to have his head shaven. When he first told me this I looked a little bewildered and decided to ignore it, it would pass. It did not. He continued to pester me about having his hair OFF. I told him no - why would one want to cut such beautiful hair? I should have just listened...

A week ago, as I was finishing up my blog post for the day, I told Joubert to get ready to go to bed. He was standing right next to me and something told me to look up. I looked. And I looked again. I frowned. I tried to tidy his hair. That was not the problem. Joubert, realising that his mother would not listen to reason, proceeded to take a pair of scissors out of the kitchen, and cut his own hair. It was not a particularly successful attempt, but it was done. I laughed. I told him that in future I would listen to his requests, but he must promise never to cut his own hair again!

So the next day we went to the hair salon. And I asked to have the boy's hair cut - very short please (as if there was any other way, given what he did to his fringe). Yes, his head is not shaven, but the boy is very happy.

And so mommy learned another lesson. At five, a boy is old enough to know how he wants his hair cut!

LOL! My girls have cut their own hair a few times!

I must admit, I really love when boys have really short hair, so I love his new do! :)

Oh my gosh, he is so handsome!!! I agree with MG, that haircut makes him look so grown up!!

The haircuts that my kids gave themselves over the years have never been fixed that well, I'm impressed!

Yes I have learned this lesson too when they ask for a hair cut get them one or they'll resort to all kinds of creative ways to make you get it cut!

He looks so cute with short hair I love it!

Well Joubert looks very grown up, cool and funky with his new haircut, Harriet managed to get a huge wad of bubble gum in her hair, which resulted in a very strange asymetric cut ( by me) topped off with Harriet chopping the fringe, the end result was an elfin crop at the salon, and a very mad little girl as people thought she was a little boy.
Lovely shots

My son is six and Chaos Boy has impossible hair. It just don't want to lie right. The only way to make him look neat is to cut his hear short. That is a nightmare because he's not keen on the shaver. It helps that I also have my hair shaved fairly short, so I lead by example.

All three of my kids have done the self haircut. He looks great, though.

I let me son, when he was in 1st or 2nd grade, shave his head. Well, this was my asthmatic boy, my skinny, tiny boy and with his shaved head he looked extremely ill. Your choice looks much better! Tell him he looks handsome!

He looked cute before the cut, but the new cut is adorable on him.
